How to research keywords for your store
Look up search volume, get keyword ideas, see who ranks for the same terms, and watch your chosen keywords over time.
The name you gave your product and the words your customer types are rarely the same. The Keyword Research screen closes that gap: how many times a term is searched each month, how competitive it is, and which sites rank for the same words. Lookups draw on a monthly allowance, and the panel always shows what you have left.

Pasos
Las pantallas son ilustrativas; los datos de tu panel serán distintos.
Paso 1: Check your remaining allowance
At the top of Marketing > Keywords sits the Monthly query allowance box: how many lookups you have left and the date it resets. If the allowance cannot be read, the panel says so but lookups still work. When it runs out, lookups stop and the allowance resets at the start of next month.

On the Search Volume tab, type your keywords separated by commas and click Look up. The results table gives each keyword's Monthly searches, Difficulty, Competition and Cost per click. Ask for the same keyword again shortly after and the result is served from cache with no query deducted — the panel says so under the row.

Type a single keyword on the Keyword Ideas tab and click Suggest. The panel lists related searches — this is usually where you find people looking for your product by a name you never used. Working those into product titles and category descriptions pays off faster than writing new content.

The Competitors tab shows which sites rank for the same keywords you do. Enter your own domain and click Analyse; the table gives each competitor's Shared keywords, Organic keywords and Estimated traffic. Sites with many shared keywords are your real competition — a big name in your sector with few shared keywords is not chasing the same customer.

Track on any lookup result starts watching a keyword, and watched terms are marked Tracking. The Watch List tab shows what you watch and when each was Last checked. Refresh list tells you how many keywords were updated. If the list is empty, the panel explains you can press the star on any lookup result to start.

Consejos
Difficulty matters more than volume
A term with high monthly searches and high difficulty takes a new store years to reach the first page for. Medium-volume, low-difficulty terms bring less traffic but traffic that actually arrives. Put those on your watch list first.
The cache protects your allowance
Ask for the same keyword again and the result comes from cache with nothing deducted; the panel says so and gives the date of the data. That lets you experiment without burning the allowance — just do not mistake a stale result for a current one.
Research does nothing until you use it
Research alone does not move rankings. Put the terms you found into product names, category descriptions and the meta titles under SEO settings — that is where the work actually happens.
Preguntas frecuentes
- My allowance is used up — what now?
- It resets at the start of the month on its own, and the panel states the date. Until then, keywords you looked up before still come from cache, and reviewing the terms on your watch list costs nothing.
- It says no results but the keyword is right
- The panel asks you to check the spelling and try again. Very new, very local or very rarely searched terms may simply have no data at the provider. Trying a broader term and narrowing down from the Keyword Ideas tab usually works.
- It says keyword lookups are switched off
- That means lookups are disabled for this store. If you see that message it is not because your allowance ran out but because the feature is turned off here — the setting needs enabling.
- Why does Last checked say Never on my watch list?
- You have only just added the keyword and the panel has not checked it yet. Refresh list updates it, and the panel reports how many keywords were updated.
