How to set up automatic blogging
Generate blog posts from your catalogue on a schedule, choose whether they publish or wait as drafts, and follow the generation history.
Blogging works for SEO and is the job nobody sustains. Auto Blog generates posts from the products, categories and services in your catalogue at whatever interval you set. Two decisions define everything: how often it runs, and whether what it produces publishes straight away. Turn automatic publishing off and every post waits as a draft that nobody sees until you have read it.
Before you start

- The newsletter plugin, if you want subscribers notified
Steps
Screens are illustrative; the data in your own panel will differ.
Step 1: Turn auto blog on
On the Auto Blog screen under Content > Blog, click Edit settings. Auto blog enabled is the master switch for scheduled generation — with it off nothing is produced on its own, though you can still Generate now by hand. The status row states whether you are currently On or Off.

Frequency says how often a new post is generated: Daily, Weekly or Monthly. Blog about picks which catalog items may be turned into blog posts — Product, Category and Service. On a small catalogue, Daily comes back round to the same products quickly; Weekly is the right starting point for most stores.

With Publish automatically on, a generated post goes live on your site straight away. With it off the post waits as a Draft and nobody sees it until you open it from the Blog screen and read it. Keep it off for the first few weeks and read what comes out — that is the only way to tell whether the tone fits your store.

If you do not want to wait for the schedule, click Generate now; the panel asks you to confirm first. It says when generation has started, and the result comes back one of two ways: with Publish automatically on it reports the post as published, with it off as a draft — naming the post's title either way.

The Generation history table lists every attempt with its Date, Generated for, Blog post, Status, Trigger and Model. Status is Generating, Draft, Published or Failed; Trigger says whether the post came from a Scheduled run or a Manual click. View post opens the result directly.

Tips
Drafts first, automatic publishing later
Turning Publish automatically on from day one means text you have not read appearing on your site. Run it in draft mode for a few weeks; switch it on once the tone and the accuracy are what you expected.
The subject choice decides repetition
Pick only Product with 20 products in your catalogue, and a daily schedule exhausts the whole catalogue in three weeks and starts again. Ticking Category and Service adds variety; on small catalogues, lowering the frequency works better.
Turn newsletter notification on deliberately
With Notify newsletter subscribers on, every published post emails your subscribers. Combined with a daily schedule that is one email a day to your list — think before switching both on together.
Frequently asked questions
- Will automatic posts hurt my SEO?
- Everything you publish is the face of your site, which is why keeping automatic publishing off and publishing after reading is the safest route. The content is not invented — it is generated from real items in your catalogue — but making sure the tone suits your brand is your job.
- A post shows as Failed
- A Failed row in the generation history means the post could not be produced on that attempt, and the panel also says generation failed on screen. The next scheduled run carries on as normal; if you would rather not wait, try Generate now by hand.
- Why is newsletter notification unavailable?
- The panel notes next to that setting that the newsletter plugin is required. Without it the notification does not work; blog generation continues as normal, only the subscriber email is not sent.
- What language are the posts written in?
- Whatever you pick under Content language. That setting is independent of your store's language, so on a multi-language store you can keep the blog in a single language.
